Mrs. Pam Hamilton, Brother John and Dr. Neal Weaver

On July 4 , June and I had the privilege of being with Brother John Hamilton at New Life Baptist Church in Columbia, SC.

He had a guest speaker that day, Dr. Neal Weaver, from Louisiana Baptist University. When the service was concluded, Dr. Weaver bestowed the Honorary Doctorate of Divinity to Brother Hamilton.

It was a very emotional service with the congregation taken by surprise but they were all pleased and excited about the presentation. Many spoke with us about how deserving their pastor is of that honor. He is a man with a vision for winning his city to Christ and has converts regularly and then sees them get baptized and become active in the church. John feels that is what the ministry is all about and is faithful in his calling. Congratulations, Dr. Hamilton and may God bless you and yours!

Missionary Call

From: Thomas Maher,The WITNESS Project
Director and Pastor in Southeast India

http://dwministries.org/simon/photos/3281-2970.jpgGod calls everyone to His ministry! We should not ignore His call for His work. God wants all people to be saved and come to Heaven. God’s need for labourers is the same both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament. "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" (Isa 6:8). "The harvest is plenty but the labourers are few!" (Mt 9:37). There is rush and competition to become doctors, engineers, lawyers and teachers; but few are those who take up Christian service. God had only one Son and He sent Him as a missionary-martyr into this world. There is always vacancy in God’s work. Will you accept this challenge? Whatever may be your profession, God can call YOU!

Introduction:

Moses was a soldier and God called him to lead His people out of Egypt. David was a shepherd and God called him to rule His people. Amos was a shepherd too and God called him to be a prophet. Jesus was a carpenter and He was called to fulltime ministry at the age of thirty. Peter was a fisherman and Jesus called him to leave the nets and follow Him. Matthew was a tax-collector and Jesus called him to leave his office to serve Him fulltime. Paul was a tentmaker and God called him for a global service demanding all his time. Luke was a medical doctor and he joined Paul in the missionary journey.

Dispensationsational Theology

From: June Wood, Trenton, GA , Gospel Recording Artist, Registered at LBU, wife, mother, and grandmother of eleven

Recently, I had the privilege to take ten hours of study on the subject of dispensations. I realized even though I have been saved for fifty years and brought up all my life in an independent Baptist church and my parents only used the Schofield reference Bible, I knew very little about the subject.

I tried to reason as to why this subject was not taught in our ‘good churches’ and have no answer except to say that most likely the pastors we had did not know enough about the subject to teach it or felt that the reference Bible dealt with the subject enough.

I have to admit that it is a difficult subject to wrap the brain around. There are so many tenets to it that when I think I have a grasp of it, then a new question arises.

Dr. Robert Congdon, my teacher, was a real blessing and challenge to me on the subject. I took thirty-three pages of notes and had to do it quickly as there was so much to cover. I returned home and have tried to decipher my notes and read the book by Charles Ryrie, “Dispensationalism” and will attempt to tell you some of the things we learned on this great subject.

Q & A

Our question this month comes from the Philippines: "I lose confidence in soul winning every time someone says "no". Is there something about me that is turning people off?"

Wow! This question could have come from right here in America, or anywhere that believers practice Soul Winning. Satan's work to stop us does not differ -- he uses the same weapons to stop all of us.

First of all, a couple of comments that are true about everyone of us as we do our best to share the Gospel with others.

1. Every soul winner who has ever shared the Gospel has received a “no.” The prospect may say “no” when we ask to share the Gospel. He may say “no” when we ask him to receive Christ. In fact, there are several places and times when we witness that a person can very simply stop us and refuse to respond or just plain become very negative.

Humor with a Message

Sunday School Lesson

One Sunday, after church, Mom asked her little daughter what the Sunday school lesson was about. Her daughter answered, "Don't be scared, you'll get your quilts." Needless to say, Mom was perplexed.

Later in the day, the pastor stopped by for tea. Mom asked him what that morning's Sunday school lesson was about.

He said, "Be not afraid, thy Comforter is coming."

Always Remove Distractions

From: Dr. David A. Wood

A soul winner must always remember that Satan does not easily give up on the person to whom we are presenting Christ. In other words, the kingdom of darkness will not joyfully give up a subject to the kingdom of Light.

No one works at soul winning long before he or she becomes aware of this truth. Many times Satan will use a distraction as a tool to keep someone from listening to a clear gospel presentation.

As a soul winner, we must work at removing these distractions. One of the best ways is to be aware of the task at the beginning of the presentation and "set the stage" before we start.

A good example of this can be seen in I Samuel, chapter 9. Samuel wanted to anoint Saul as king over Israel. However, Saul's servant was...

America Under Judgement

From: Dr. Bob Bevington – Founder of Knoxville Baptist Tabernacle - deceased

Psalms 33: 12 “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people he hath chosen for his own inheritance. Psalms 33:13 “The Lord looketh from Heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. Psalms 33: 16 “There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.” (We are trusting in military might for victory)

Psalms 33:17 “An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.” (Horse-can be called a plane, rocket or bomb) Psalms 33:20-21 “Our soul waiteth for the Lord: he is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His Holy name.”

1. WHEN GOD LOOKS DOWN FROM HEAVEN, WHAT DOES HE SEE?

What does He see in America? Proverbs 15:3 “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.”

"I care not where I go or how I live or what I endure so that I may save souls. When I sleep I dream of them; when I awake they are first in my thoughts...no amount of scholastic attainment, or able and profound exposition, of brilliant and stirring eloquence can atone for the absence of a deep, impassioned, sympathetic love for human souls."
